HELLO THERE!

My Name is Erika Johnson and I am an Art Psychotherapist (Qualifying) with a BA in Art and Psychology from the University of Windsor and my diploma in Art Therapy from Kutenai Art Therapy Institute.

Creating Horizons name was born in honor of my relationship with the land that has been growing since leaving the mountains of British Columbia after my degree. It was a promise to myself to acknowledge where all my new horizons would take me. It was to take the moments to pause, take each day at a time, with every new landscape, every new relationship, and that it was my story to create.

About Me

Creating Horizons Art Therapy exists in the Treaty 9 region of Northern Ontario out of my Timmins home base. My work experience with Mushkegowuk Council brought me across the James Bay Coast offering services to the Mushkegowuk youth combining land-based and Art Therapy into one holistic practice focusing on wellness from a multi-faceted arts based approach. I have been fortunate in my experiences and for those I have met in my journey's thus far and have found a passion in the Northern lifestyle and the land.

With Creating Horizons, I hope to be able to expand my capacity supporting individuals of the North alongside their circle of care by providing psycho-education as well as a community driven group offerings. With both virtual and in-person services, I aim to create unique offerings both on the land, as well as within office offerings to respond to the needs and interest of my community.

I have a person-centered, holistic and Jungian approach to the work that I offer. From a humanistic perspective, I believe that each individual has it within them to grow and achieve their goals in healing and ability to hold their stories. My areas of interest within my practice includes, but isn't limited to, youth work, identity exploration, artist development, grief work, and mental health.
